It is essential that academia does not confine itself to the ivory tower, but engages in a two-way conversation with the whole of society. I enjoy nothing more than discussing my research with others. I also strongly believe that academia should be more structurally inclusive, diverse and socially just. I am committed to trying to bring this about. Below are some activities I have engaged in for the purposes of communication, engagement or inclusivity.

Wonder Philosophy (2021)

Wonder Philosophy is an annual workshop for potential applicants to philosophy graduate programs, especially aimed towards encouraging and informing first-generational college students. I served as a presenter, panelist and organizer.

Physics After Hours (2020)

Physics After Hours is a podcast focused on physics, philosophy, mathematics and other topics. I was an interviewee for the Physics After Hours podcast, in which I talked about the quantum field theory, and the philosophy of physics more broadly.

Tavistock Tutors — pro bono work (2015-2016)

Whilst working as a tutor for Tavistock Tutors, I conducted pro bono work for students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. This involved both one-on-one lessons, and a number of visits to schools in the London borough of Hackney (one of the most socio-economically deprived parts of greater London) in order to help prepare personal statements for university admissions.

Voice of the Future (2014)
I represented the Institute of Physics at this annual event, broadcast on BBC Parliament. The event features a discussion on science and education policy, between early-career scientists and members of parliament (MPs), including the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee.

Royal Society Exhibition: Understanding the Higgs Boson (2013)

The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition is an annual event in which scientists discuss their research with the public. I worked as an outreach ambassador, presenting and discussing results from the Large Hadron Collider, particularly the recent discovery of the Higgs Boson.

I'm a Scientist: Get me out of here (2013)

I participated in I’m a Scientist: Get me out of here, a student-led, STEM enrichment activity, connecting school students with scientists. The school students are free to ask absolutely any questions.
